My name is Bob Streb, some people call me Bobber and I am usually Frank. I was spawned in Rochester NY and I was an Irondequoit Indian (now the PC Eagles) until 1985. Home now is the Central Mountains of Colorado (Minturn) and my team is Colorado Angling Company.
The waters of the Adirondacks, Catskills, Central Pennsylvania,
the Tribs of Lake Ontario and Erie; and my forever home water, Oatka creek
served as the greatest undergrad program on the planet for fly fishing and
tying. After 30+ years of fly fishing, almost two decades of guiding and over
10,000 commercial rowing miles on The Roaring Fork, The Colorado and my current home river, THE Eagle River, I almost have my PHD.
My DNA ancestry report came back 52% Labrador and 48% old Brown Trout.
The older I get and the colder it gets the more I want to chill at home and snack. The urge to leave the lair is strongest during the brief warmth of afternoons when I am also the hungriest. While I haven't noticed a kype forming, I have noticed other bits of my anatomy, like my eye brows, growing out of control with age. Like any good bird dog I strive to work hard and love my people until say, you kick me or one of mine.......then I bite you and never like you again. Like the Brown Trout, I have become more careful and wary around others in my "maturity", so when the Good Mother (Nature) finally gives me an opportunity to fish, which is very different from guiding, choosing the company to share that space with is important, more so than the end result.
I own a Harley that I mostly apologize to because I am on the river everyday. I admit to loving cotton hoodies in a quick dry world and still bleeding for the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. My all-time favorite Orangeman is Pearl Washington. Gretzky was the greatest. Dominic Hasek was a freak. My mouth still waters for Nick Tahoe's Cheeseburger Garbage plate, heavy sauce, heavy onions.
Any time I get to spend ripping streamers, rowing the Eagle or necking down frozen double stuff Oreos is good. Salt Water fly fishing is better. Time I spend traveling with my best part, Miss Kitty or coaching my son Sam is the best.
